What is the topmost acting industry in India? Bollywood? Do you mind giving a second thought to if Bollywood is the only answer?
I say there are two more - One, Politics with its top-notch actors, with their eclectic yet unique acting skills, crisp plots, and unanticipated plot twists who’d certainly leave behind the greats like Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, and Tom cruise. But why waste your precious time on another piece of article on politics?
We have a second brand new acting industry emerging, but there is a catch. Its acting is worse than that in a B grade south industry movie. It is none other than our honourable Media.
Hoping that I need not explain what the media is, I am going to skip the definition and save you busy
souls another 30 seconds which will be priceless while submitting your assignments before 11:59 tonight!
Let me tell you what the Indian media has become. Media is like those strip models who dance naked in the laps of those who have money, power or influence forgetting the difference between attractive and decent, funny and cringe, blunt and derogatory, debate and disrespect, suggestion and brainwash, marketing and hoopla, support and campaign, politeness and flattery; forgetting the real reason of their existence and goal of their function; forgetting that their scams are not as covert as they might seem; that their obscenity can only attract pervs, not the intellectuals needed to run the country. They are now just some spoiled bitches with one lame propaganda.
There is a news channel that had gotten into a fix with Modi once; now it is busy posting news criticizing the Government. I don’t think there are any other channels that don’t scratch the Government’s back let alone criticize it. They cannot raise proper questions and therefore take refuge in good English and loudness to make us realize the SHEER SUDDENNESS OF THE MOVE.
Fun fact- they succeed in this type of persuasion.
I am not implying that the Media is favouring the government or that it will continue to favour in the future. It is as fickle, dynamic, and evolving as the youth that it influences. A time will come when BJP will be weakened and either Congress or some other party will rise to power. When the Media will know that power is about to change hands, it will do the same.
Media is the judge, jury, and prosecution today. It is abusing its power to the fullest potential. Scrutinize the recent cases. The media coverage on SSR was good to watch but it did more than mere coverage. I am also one of those who want justice but do you really think that the media just wants justice? It is calling experts to have talks and decide who is wrong or right. Is that the media’s responsibility? Must it pass judgment acting as superior to the court? It is there to observe, reflect, and criticize, not to behave immaturely. Crossing its limits of humanity using 3rd-grade thumbnails and punch lines is not a media thing to do. It had broadcasted the dead body, how low could it fall? There is one channel whose anchor wants a lot of stuff like weed and drugs. The channel has successfully brushed off this case and declared some as criminals on their own. There was another channel that interviewed Rhea and portrayed her as a victim.
The media is either acquitting one or accusing the other none of which it is supposed to do.
Indian media is creating a new history that has killed real journalism with constantly manufactured opinions and no accountability. It has clearly shown its affection towards the Modi regime and those who ask questions are called anti-nationals. The media has lost its worth.
The GDP falls by 24% and the media questions no one. There is just a statement in the news about this fact and then it’s over. The media can make or destroy a government because it greatly influences the common man who decides wrong or right according to the ‘facts’ provided by the media which are mere judgments and not facts anymore.
The government removed article 370 and the Media was busy praising the government, glorifying Modi, showing the positive sides of the decision, broadcasting the happy faces on TV. If everyone was happy, why were many leaders house-arrested? Why is there still 2G internet? Why does the media never show the full picture? It always forgets the side that does not favour the government.
JNU is yet another big example. There is no central source affirming any anti-national activity in the University. There has been no evidence of the same in any investigation. The truth is that JNU is one of the rare places left where questions and doubts on government policies are still raised. And this is not a novel phenomenon. JNU has always been doing it but only now has the media labelled it as Anti-national. Go ask the media what investigative authority proves this and it will have no answer.
My final say is that the media has failed to fulfil its duty in recent years and it is proud of it. It is time to understand that the media does not reflect reality now. We must not form opinions as per what the media shows us because it is far from the truth with the simple agenda to create spicy news and make money.
It is not there for journalism. It is dead. The Indian Media is dead.
